Recipes for Students on a Budget with HeyOlivia | #BookBreak

Hey guys my name's Olivia and if you don't know me from my channel I run a channel called HeyOlivia and this is where I post videos about uni and I'm getting on and give advice for prospective students I'm really excited to have been given the opportunity to post a video here on the book break channel I myself am a student at Bristol University and I know how hard the transition from being at home to uni can be and one of the main struggles I had was learning how to cook for yourself and on a budget I think as a student it's very tempting to buy write emails and all this cheap food which just isn't that great for you and also to just skip meals like breakfast you tend to just run out the door without even thinking about eating luckily there are loads of awesome cookbooks out there and I wanted to talk about one today and this is tiny budget cooking by Lamar small I think it's a really common misconception that as a student you can't eat well and it's too expensive and this book completely disproves that and provides you with really useful easy to make recipes one thing I love about this book also is that it has really helpful meal plans so you can literally plan out your meals at the start of the week and follow it along and you'll know exactly how much you need to buy so it's really easy to budget or so many recipes I could have chosen from but I've chosen to breakfast recipes to show you guys because I think breakfast hang up very boring as a student it's very tempting to just keep eating the same cereal I've chosen the apple crumble granola and also the chocolate chip breakfast scones really hope you guys enjoy this video and get to learn two really tasty recipes that you can make at uni and if you want to check out more I definitely recommend getting this book so the first recipe I'm going to be showing you how to make is the breakfast crumble with apple and honey and I think this is an excellent recipe because you can make the granola part of the recipe the night before and then add really whatever you'd like to add but I'm just going to show you one of the combinations are shown in the book so to meet the granola you're going to need 150 to 200 grams of dried fruit and nut mixture you're also going to need 400 grams of porridge oats 3/4 a teaspoon of salt 170 milliliters of honey or any chosen syrup of choice I've chosen to go with golden syrup and 2 grams of sugar 120 milliliters of vegetable oil and 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence so the first thing we're going to do is combine all our dry mixture together so that's the 400 grams of porridge oats and dried fruit and nuts using them and you also want to add this mixture 3/4 of a teaspoon of salt and then just mix that all together the next thing we want to do is make the wet part of the ingredients so that we're going to add 100 grams of sugar and then we're also going to add 120 milliliters of vegetable oil then we're also going to add 170 milliliters of your chosen syrup mine is golden like I said earlier and then what you want to do is just keep mixing it until the mixture starts so now what you want to do is just spread your dry mixture over a tea tray and then you just want to pour your syrup all over and you just want everything to be nice and evenly coated as I said earlier the nice thing about this recipe is it's really versatile so I've chosen to use almond extract and it's made it tastes a lot like a Bakewell tart it's pretty good you want to place it in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes and start after 10 minutes and also after 20 so now we're moving on to the topic of the granola and what I've done is I've just chopped up an apple the recipe calls for three but obviously if you're just one person one it's more than enough and the nice thing about this recipe like I said is you can have any topping because you can prepare the granola months in advance if you want to do because it keeps for so long so you just want to have them all a similar size so that they cook evenly so now what you want to do is you just want to add the apples to a saucepan eating them up is just going to help soften them and then to that you want to add three tablespoons of water and then you also want to add a tablespoon of syrup I'm gonna add a little bit of cinnamon to it because I love cinnamon and Apple it's one of my favorite combinations so the Pramila is ready and it looks so good and you can tell it's ready because it kind of goes bit darker Brown and the reason start to swap and it smells really good so this is ready to serve so I'm gonna put some in a bowl and then I'm gonna add to that some of our Delicious apple and cinnamon mixture and the recipe also says that it's really good with a dollop of yogurt so that is what I'm gonna do make it a bit more breakfast tea I'm gonna try it out so I'm not lying to you guys so rub so nice recipe I really wanted to show you guys it's the Chocolate Chunk breakfast going and this is perfect if you've got a bit of a sweet tooth like me again this is a really easy recipe you can prepare the night before because you can make a batch and then freeze it and you can add whatever you like on top of the scone so they're really really easy to make so what you're going to need is 250 grams of self-raising flour 50 grams of dark chocolate 50 grams of caster sugar 50 grams of butter 100 millilitres of whole milk and 50 milliliters of whipping cream so I've just added 250 grams of self-raising flour in the bowl and I'm now going to add about 50 grams of caster sugar and then you also want to add that 50 grams of dark chocolate I'm just gonna chop them up small so they're easier to incorporate but you can have them whatever size you want pour chocolate chips are probably work for you are too then you just want to mix this all together combining all the ingredients so we're going to add 50 grams of butter to a saucepan and then just heat that over a low heat so it doesn't burn and now that's heated we want to add 100 milliliters of whole milk and also 50 milliliters of whipping cream and then just don't be heat that all together and then what you want to do is just pour over this mixture that you've just melted and add it to your dry ingredients and then you just want to mix that together and then eventually it should form a dough which you can need so one thing I've noticed is that because I've just added a hot mixture to the flour the chocolate chips are missing a little bit so if you want a chocolate swirls go do it this move if not wait for it to cool down and then you want to take your dough out just roll around in the flour a little bit just so it's easier to manage and you want to need that for about a minute and then what you want to do now is just roll it out till about four centimeters thick I think and then what I like to do is I like to just use a glass because then you can just make sure your skies are all about the same size but you can do as you wish Wireless usually put the glass in and then you want to place these into an oven that's been preheated at 180 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden so this is the chocolate chip breakfast scone and as I said you who make these of the night before and then all you have to do is just add your topping of choice that was the video I really hope you guys enjoyed thank you so much for having me on the book break channel I can't wait to try more recipes from this book and I really hope you guys enjoy cooking from it too if you'd like to check out some more of my content I
